RIDING IN TRIBUTE

0

During my upcoming Amazing Ride for Alzheimer’s tour in Italy I will be riding a day in tribute to Vic and Gen Albiero. Their photo will grace the top of this website for a day and I will detail my days travels in their honor.

On a side note, it was Vic who gave me a $100 donation three years ago for my first ride for Alzheimer’s in Alaska. The wheels had started falling off my plans and I went to give Vic his money back and he said, “Just do the best you can.”  Sound advice and inspiration enough to continue to move forward.

Three years later the tours have raised over $82,000 for Alzheimer’s activities and events at Cedar Community.

If you would like me to ride a day in tribute to someone – all it takes is a simple $100 tax-deductible donation and a jpeg photo set to [email protected]

More details are below.

Checks payable: “Cedar Community Foundation”113 Cedar Ridge Dr., West Bend, WI 53095Cedar Community is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit.

TRAINING FOR THE TOUR HAS BEGUN!

0
Although the Amazing Ride for Alzheimer’s tour in Italy is still more than five months out – I have started training. Bicycling over 1,000 miles does take some prep work. Last year, for the Nova Scotia to West Bend tour, I completed 10,000 pushups as part of a fund-raising pledge.
This year I’m taking advantage of a gift certificate I bid on during a fund raiser. I’ve started training at Paradise Springs Fitness and I love it!  Very challenging and a new method of training that focuses on a lot of core.
During my first workout at Paradise Springs Fitness the trainer kept saying, “give more weight to Steffes” and “put more weight on Steffes.”   Me, I was looking at this nice looking guy.

However, 30 minutes later I had to yak because I was overdoing it and ran across the floor to the bathroom.

Too bad I was so unfamiliar with the layout of the place and my destination just ended up being a well-lit corner with a plant and no bathroom.
My friend asked if that guy I spoke about was impressed by that.
sigh…..

If this were easy ….. everybody would do it.

CELEBRATION AT CEDAR COMMUNITY

0

It was a who’s who celebration at Cedar Ridge this week as the “Moments to Remember” Campaign announced it exceeded its goal and raised $4 million to support the Cottages at Cedar Run, the new 60-unit memory care facility at Cedar Community.

Doug Ziegler was recognized for his commitment and fund-raising efforts. Others in attendance included Steve Jaberg, Amy Johnson, Allan Kieckhaefer, Betty Nelson, Sharon Ziegler, Ann Hale, and a special presentation on family and the benefits of Cedar Community was given by Jacci Gambucci.

Salberg Law sponsors tour

Major thanks to Amy Salberg with Salberg Law Firm for sponsoring this year’s Amazing Ride for Alzheimer’s. I spoke before TEMPO Washington County; it’s an organization made up of ‘Women of Influence’ in the county who want to connect with like-minded professionals.

The speaking engagement was at West Bend Mutual’s Prairie Center. About 15 women were in attendance and dressed in business attire and I stood up front and told them about my fundraising tours which included things like bicycling in a garbage bag when it’s raining and never having a reservation for where I was going to spend the night and raising money for Alzheimer’s.

I guess I was riveting and inspiring…. at least that’s what they said.  Below is a thank-you note I received from TEMPO’s Julie Gabelmann. If anybody else would like to schedule me as a wonderful and entertaining speaker – give me a call at 262-334-4526.

Dear Judy,

Thank you once again for the gift of your time yesterday at our TEMPO Washington County luncheon!  You are an extraordinary woman and a gifted speaker who engaged us in the adventure and humanity of your travels.  And if that weren’t enough, your gracious heart and sharing of family connections to Cedar Community and Alzheimer’s touched us all.

On behalf of the TEMPO Board members and all of our guests, let me extend our sincere thanks and great appreciation for the gift of YOU yesterday!

Always Warm Regards,

Julie

My goal on the 2015 tour is to make this happen in West Bend

0

The folks at Cedar Community gave me the privilege of seeing this documentary, Alive Inside, at the Milwaukee Film Festival. It inspired me. My goal in the 2015 Italy tour is to raise enough money to provide iPods and music for folks that suffer Alzheimer’s and dementia in West Bend and Washington County.

Sponsorship proposal to be released shortly.

Thanks for the support – onto new adventures

It’s been a whirlwind of emotions since returning home – – elation from the accomplishment of pedaling 1,031 miles, memories of wonderful people and beautiful scenery, realization of the fatigue and soreness from the challenging hills followed by more hills, and the comfort of being home and knowing I helped raise nearly $30,000 this tour for Alzheimer’s.

I ran into tour sponsor Helen Reinke upon my return. “What’s next,” was her immediate question.

I will keep you posted. I’m sure there’s another tour in the future – the planning has only just begun.

A mighty thanks to all the sponsors, supporters and my web editor – I could not have done it without you!
