Ross – a treasure

Ross Lorena Blount. Autobiography There and back again

In December 1959 a bus headed to Iowa State University hit a snowstorm. The bus was on its way back from a conference were young. Martin Luther King Jr. just spoken. They’re huddled in one of the freezing seats as Ross Blunt and Lorraine Duncan beginning a new friendship as they tried to stay warm over the course of 50 years, Ross and Lorraine have pursuit of life of astonishing service the pioneer new pass as early peace, core volunteers, cutting edge, teachers and community building Christians. The glimpse of the lives contains thrilling tales of deadly African cobras, Kentucky family feud and even what to do when anti-thematic blah blah blah blah blah Incredible journey to learn one way to work with all your heart is that you were working for the Lord

A lot of things going on for this universe it was not centered. It was sure that you were. This was in Nigerian. You said something about Russians and the African what did they say in African cobra there were a lot of people there were a lot of project going on for the people and there was a health center there and they were doing a lot of different things And they were too Russian Russian. They were pregnant anyway so what are the things that we would always found a place where you can go swimming so we were really nice right in swimming and it was time to have our picnic so we came up after we came up here came cobra stand down down the river right there had been five minutes before it was really dramatic thing because she saw it from the very beginning and she was, she couldn’t even scream or anything like we were from here to the car out there The beach was gonna go on down, but that’s what it is the cobra guy dozer they were clearing off this guy clearing off this brushy land trees and things and snake was raised up. The bulldozer ran right over that. I did read the first part of the book where you were a little, a little rowdy boy dip in the girls pigtails into the inkwell and then trying your hand graffiti what was your what was your poem about? I’m gonna have Caesar class here this morning. I was reading. Cesar pooped. Napoleon pooped in France, but before I do it in this place, I do it in my pants Stickler that’s being kind. How totally said she was but she certainly didn’t like the idea but it was told she said you know the reason you’re going to school is because she’s there she said high school elementary school known that they were doing in school she said I heard that’s why we went to another school in a whole new area Chosen growing up Ross that’s OK when you heard Martin Luther King Jr. did he speak? He said he spoke what struck you about his style or how he was received Athens Ohio. My impression was a really great man a really great man. It was spoken yet. It was conference it was held during vacation part of one year Break was very impressed. My mother was she she she she went to high school and did the normal school high school temporary certificate teaching school done when she was promised her teacher her brother was just coming out of junior high was up at the edge of high school and Ian is some pretty rowdy friends to ship in the world and they were able to somehow ship around the East Coast and they went down the Panama Canal and West Coast Seattle. They went to Japan with running away. You will come back here and I will and you will go the day you get back, we will go to Coast military Academy and you will be enrolled and you will be, your graduate Dorothy Dorothy you have to be on your own for the preparation because we will not have resources to. He said this is only thing I can see that will save him from such she started. She started with the certification really small way back schools gradually summertime I think we were my brother Bill and I were, I think upper elementary school and stayed all summer with them with my uncle and Memphis and our uncle and Memphis and she went teacher college and she got her some other other things too, but she finished it when you were in the car for a certain amount of time or two years and then and then you have to push along or they reassign you Resources people and she was working in schools in the city and was related to churches in the area and she started working with the council of churches and now this is 19 40 40, 4445. She was courageous and she was willing to do things that promoted racial Was black-and-white women’s Bible study she always was. She always was involved and things that were promoting understanding and being willing to live together so I was at the conference to be somewhere near and I’m actually great hon. Oh yeah I bet your mom was really proud of you graffiti artist Being an attendance Martin Luther King speech wow that’s that’s something else south nonviolent participants previous conferences as well South Carolina opportunity for that actually but they sit down and what people would do. Cigarettes really really bad but underlay goes along with the flavor. A lot of fortitude sounds like you need to be involved in this and you need to know but you need to stand up and do it so that’s what he was That came along 5960 huge dwelling with how did you make it like who is who is paying your way? How are you involved because all the administrative aspects had to be developed as it went along and what they set up at the beginning is what they did very very thorough examination of it just seems to be, just a took about very carefully thought about and developed and trying to avoid difficulties so that was our salary was $75 a month and that and the money was not available you could only get it when you had completed your service what they had was a daily living allowance For us where we were the peaceful had lunch meal program for the 30 of us universe all in place and so we had to do the university gave us rooms so we stayed in the dorm, but the range was made by the organization we had to do Serwe or whatever That thing was so that we had we had doctors that were serving with the area where they were thorough and making sure there was just hard to believe that that organized when I look at some government programs now I mean from hurricane Katrina and donations to Covid and trillions lost on accounted for just Peace and it was a matter of the people that were in it were protecting it from being miss you smokers very much. That’s pretty good that’s that’s not a West Bend Co.. He said get your bag of ice take along with you and I said his name was Ed and I said Ed what kind of this don’t know oh my gosh that was so funny that I took his. I took his picture and they’re just so sweet and then he says well there

All major field education, but he was one and then I took some foundation trial fellowship trial fellowship regional conferences was  ok l  all at the church for another three months you want to see Martin Luther King Nationwide conference thing 50s and 60s do you know what year that was when you saw spoken OK Follow up with him. Did you meet him at the seminary yeah yeah yeah Lorna we had children while we were there because I came after we went. OK we were done with international stuff. Lorraine did OK the same thing to go and work with kids working together with people from that country and doing things that would help acquired came through go back after the bus she had told me all about travel in Europe and she said you got to have one of those one directories where you know what’s available where it is and how much it cost and what the requirements are for all the different And see the year before the summer before sure she was she had responsibilities classes three weeks the third week OK she sent me her host so much because she been doing the same thing I’ve been doing because we been thinking about we went up and talk to her and I had to go Volunteers that we had talked about another one was religious group 2430 November 38, 1960. How long did you guys court how long did you date before you? I knew I was going to get this fellowship and I already chosen. She had a job on the south, your travels did you meet any of the Kennedys? I know you brought their name up of course she was big in the Special Olympics unit. Schreiber Arnold Schwarzenegger was good and we were the first group year was about midnight anniversary August 26 27th of August approved for duty at a training site training program at East Lansing two weeks later where is this place? Where is Nigeria? I ran into Jesse Jackson in Chicago, but never I wasn’t even born for Martin Luther. Where were you? When you got shot? Were there two years that was a new kind of program young men mainly culture, and it really has been successful and so they asked me to come back the day of the faculty Program to do what I had developed so we went back and gone to have supper with the group together and listening to America wow peace +2 years institutionalized Serwe we didn’t have fellowship research programs housekeeper for women that we had our oldest son was Nigeria pregnant anyway those two years How was that in Nigeria at the time having babies there where the university was in the boondocks is the president for quite a lot system agriculture do you know about that? What is in this country? We got the jump on Development because the fact that they were part of this too was an 1860s because the situation with, the Civil War and the southern conservative Democrats kept us from being progressive and move. A lot of things that were going on what was happening we were moving west they were able to get through because they were. They were involved in succession. Sure progress they were opening up railroads different ways they were requiring land and what they would do they would grant a parcel of land to the establishment of a new university that would be a university, and it would be Design to be dealing with the needs one basic research into agriculture they got wheat. We still have experiment stations where your university is university Wisconsin I was State is the one that was there so they had so that the way that they had the money to the university was they would sell land and then they use the other part actually Was education. There was only one university offered classics in northern part of Nigeria designated area. His wife had property and they were. They built in the university that was being built volunteers Search and they had really big research and they also had secretarial studies. resident experimentation resident instruction is extension extension service. I’m sure you probably because extension service always trying to make links with all the different organizations of the state to implement things that they were doing the research in the resources that were available via the university and so those three parts go with the universe really like that that they would do a huge from Michigan State by the time we got there job assignments they were doing they were doing all this With the characteristics of families communities as far as to go six grade standard six and once they made standard, they thought they were made to get a lot of trouble and they were always. They were always laying around on bicycles. They were hot so they could be making money and money like Education you teach teach teach practical philosopher Truman is the guy with this with his educational that you have a basic concept and the way you concept that way you develop it is always it was science with practice and so and that was when I was there, I was college When we came back then seminary southern Kentucky Appalachian to the war on poverty told me about this they had to deal with they were trying to college association, group name, name and information new project programs, short term experiment project hazard, Kentucky that we can deal with Community and Survis ministry within the church. I really like 1967 at the beginning of the war politicians was great TLC some kind of way of letting it all kind of come together and just be a little Feest right they were how many teachers in school to help that teacher had kids cause they were you need to get your lawn done oh OK. OK sure sure
