Yes, I kind of mentally challenged. He comes up every day. He gets some ice cream just down the block about a half so what is your name? My name is Larry Sanders, Larry Sanders, Judy yes Kilda history and I’ve been doing this just adding little things here and there through the years and so far so good I was gonna quit 25 years and I was gonna quit at 30 years and I was gonna quit 35 years and I’ll imagine I’ll quit when they carry me out of here, unless somebody comes by a nice price for everything so how many years has it been 1988 opened up here post office and postmaster for over 20 years you are all OK and when my wife was here she had a little restaurant very successful. lotta hard work and but when she left, I said I’m gonna continue this. I’ve been doing this about 1011 years but we started 88. She’s open all year round and so sandwiches and stuff and I just sell ice cream just 5 o’clock to 9 o’clock at night during June, July August Selling ice cream was 45° outside. What’s the sports here? What were you known for basketball? Well we we did win the state championship in 1989. That’s when we won the state tournament twice but the first time we were there we won the state championship in 1989 for class and, I’m always a big fan of Kilda and I got more pictures that I have room for you. You know track track and basketball course up until 19 oh I’d say 66. We had basketball football and track and then we had golf and later on about 7374 we are at a girls sports and now we got we share a lot of our programs with City. We just don’t have enough students unfortunately for a team but we do have enough for basketball and baseball and some of the women’s girls sports, but we share soccer in football And golf course out to Town at the end you’ll see that when you go to Main street and I a lot spent a lot of time with Golf Course, but that got killed history on it. I try to latch onto it from here. I was born in all my life except the Navy and I’m OK how old are you 75 and you said Building was before it originally started out as Cafe by two or three never café for one time it was a small furniture store and bookkeeping, that was built about 1908. I think approximately come through come through come through Hillary Clinton came in speech one time that’s when I thought she was a shoe to be president of United States but my predictions are the political scene wrong and I was wrong that time, but she came up to school and the kids were some of the kids from the class were following her around the Midwest and they had T-shirts and said come to Kota and they always got station in the front row. You know they always stand up and come to come kill us so She seen those and talk to him made arrangements and she came to kill and talked and she was about 45 minutes late and everybody had to go through security and everything. We waited and waited and finally talk. Nice talk nothing special but she was here I sure can with Kniess said she could hand with the next presidentwork out that way we’ve had a few baseball players come through very famous. He was a golfer. He was OK. Talk to you.
Yeah, and this is when rag Breit was coming through. Do not remember what year that was oh gosh.Q OK but I knew I couldn’t handle it so I got a hold of my my wife that time we weren’t married and my kids and I said this is the plan well she had been on right by before and she said these people wanna get and they wanna get out they don’t wanna stand in line don’t you dare let them use the bathroom and they have lots of money so she came in today and she said they wanna come in time give them bowls of ice cream so she came in a couple days ahead of time and made all this ice cream up and big containers so we just dip it out and put it in the bolts. OK we’re all set. I had all the bowls and everything we had all the ice cream made up ahead of time putting the freezer and the day before the rag came through on the 5 mile stretch of road on the highway leading in I put up the signs visit the world, famous mall shop visit the world famous mall shop, so you know about the people coming through maybe 9 o’clock in the morning you know some of the birds first guy come through I’d like a strawberry molt sorry we don’t have all we have is balls of ice cream as well. You know your science said I’d like to get them all. OK you’re by yourself nobody else here we strawberry, I’d like chocolate the same here I’ll give you I’ll give you chocolate bowl ice cream that day and over 500. Just buy a stroke. I had enough ice cream mix that I could make molts. I had an extra molt machine and we were just we had wind up out to the street and they didn’t mind standing in line whatsoever and what every once while somebody would first floor the day before they had it they have a test run bicycles come through the route to see if everything‘s OK and I seen two of them down here the street going in the local Tavern and I said we got the cleanest restrooms and Kehoe so they came down here during that day. Want to use the restroom I said yes no problems whatsoever nice and neat and courteous and clean and we were busy for probably a good 4 to 5 hours people didn’t mind and every once in a while like I yell out is everybody having fun and Wally was standing in line was a great day and I own this building across the street. it’s got 50 at the top right now but back then I put welcome to a Town Of 1000 today over 20,000 and that was the estimate who knows how many people were here but that’s what the estimate was but things went really good and the thing that made me the most happy as a business owner. I seen a video on whatever it is Facebook and this girl is saying now I’ve just spent the mall shop and I got me a mall and I’m gonna see if it is really a good molt and she took it and she like this and it didn’t fall out and that just made me feel she says that that makes a good and that just made me feel as as good as anything and really fine and I sent a letter to people that said anytime you wanna come to me it’ll probably be one more time before I pass away, but who knows what was in high school I was my brother was hard rock sanders because he liked Rocky Road hard ice cream and so I just naturally became soft rock and then I became school I became Sanders cause I played basketball and then I became Larry Gay. That’s my middle name and then became postmaster became ZIP Code postmaster as I said when I retired. I said I broke hundreds of rules and thousands just to give good service to the people if the male if letter came into Kota to be delivered, I went out of my way to make sure delivered rather than sending it back like they do nowadays cause now we got the last three postmasters you know they’re all out of town and they don’t know anything don’t know anything about the town so but you know that shits where it goes about a day and a half is upset with her philosophy on Serwe but I said there’s nothing you can do about it. You just absorb it and go from there and so I just keep busy and I love the kids come in the little kids come in their parents little kids when we open this place that makes me feel good too. What are you got about six different Kyoda, Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Colorado kind of exist with just a few buildings cut Oklahoma is a town of approximately 600 to 800 and all the rest are gone now they just went by the wayside Search and looking at the old newspapers which I like to do a lot, I ran on the little stories about those towns and wrote to historical society and that State and they sent me a little bit of information and I like I like that so you have a lot of letterman jackets and sweaters my kids have just been donated so let me see this right here above the salon from the 1950s that’s a pep jacket that all the girls wore that girls pep club and all the girls had those and for sure look at the 50s. Wish we had more kids but they were 50 to 75 girls who belong to the pet club and the use and more clothing companies make different styles styles of our uniforms and stuff changed and this one right here is the kind of warm-up jacket. I wore in 1966 and 1967 basketball boy that looks that looks very warm and I said it was warm for me cause I didn’t sit on the bench that much of her old school, which unfortunately has been torn down but that’s the school I graduate from right here. This old was torn down about 19 7374 and then we built a new high school same time and then we got onto high school and we are, we are stable. We one of the smaller one of the smallest schools in the state of Iowa, but we’re lucky, those families of 14 kids don’t exist beware wishing vent what people drop their coins down there by accident by accident OK dropping by accident keep it if they really fit. I’ll give them their money back but not too much. You have upstairs Lodge and we tried to clean it up to make it place for the kids to come, but it was at that stage in life with the kids. Just didn’t want something like that, nice white and red checkerboard and 88 my cousin and he’s amazed that his last song and your cabinets are that’s not refrigerated as it was originally bought from down the street paid $50 for back about 19 8889 when he first opened up piece of decor and it served me purpose but that’s OK. I was in Wichita 23 years ago. My son had a show there. He made flags out of old and stuff and he was very successful but then the fumes from the Paige kind of got to him so we had to quit doing it, Wichita Kansas how many kids did you have, all three boys that 67 or 68. I only works one at a time because sometimes it’s because of me causes problems when I have somebody come look at it. The guy that still works on him he walks through that door. He’s guaranteed $150 so I don’t call him too often.
